Butter Naan On Stove

Nan - Persian name for any kind of bread. Indian Naan - a flatbread cooked in a tandoor served smeared with butter/ghee has a soft yet crispy texture. It is cooked in a tandoor which distinguishes it from a roti/chapati. Naan is widely served in Indian Restaurants and the roadside dhabas.

Today we are making that Restaurant/Dhaba style Naan at home, using our everyday tava. Trust me the results are phenomenal.

Let's get our dough ready to make these scrumptious popular Indian Flatbread. All we need is a bunch of ingredients -

Instructions -

  • In a bowl, add the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and curd. Mix it until the flour becomes crumbly. Now slowly add in water to make a soft sticky dough. Once the dough is soft add in butter or oil and knead again to get a smooth texture. Cover and rest the dough for half an hour.

  • To make naan, heat a tava on medium flame. The tava should have a handle to lift and flip.

  • Now, take out a small portion of the dough and roll it using some flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll it into an oval shape. Now sprinkle some nigella/black cumin seeds(kalonji) and roll over them so that they stick to the dough.

  • Flip over the rolled naan and apply water. Now, spread the rolled naan on the tava-water side down. Gently press the edges down. Cook on medium heat until small bubbles appear on the dough.

  • Once you see a lot of bubbles or after about a minute, flip the tava over the flame. Keep the flame on medium and cook the naan from top till it gets a golden colour.

  • Once it is nice and golden flip again and scrape from the tava using a spatula. It should come off easily. Now lather some butter/ghee and serve.

Follow the steps to get the soft melt in the mouth Naan at home.

This easy Naan can be made anytime you are craving some restaurant/dhaba style food. Super quick to make at home with such less ingredients.
